I have selected this topic as the focus of my project because I am passionate about all things STEM. Growing up, I was first exposed to STEM in middle school through classes such as Junior-STEM and Intro to Robotics, though unfortunately, I have found that there were barely any other girls in those classes with me. At an early age, I faced the reality that it was primarily boys who were interested and encouraged to go into STEM classes/ fields. As a result, I would often feel intimidated to speak my mind for fear that my classmates would not take me seriously, which took a toll on my self-confidence. Now in a technical high school where I take numerous STEM-related classes, I have learned how to believe in myself and my skills. I hope that through creating and nurturing this project, I will be able to inspire and encourage young girls to learn to believe in themselves and all that they are capable of from early on. Through learning how much fun STEM can be, they may come to realize that they have every right to be as involved in STEM classes, events, and opportunities as the boys around them are.
